1. Remove the gearbox housing (50). Drain the oil from the gearbox.

2. Secure the gearbox in a vice.

3. Remove the back cover (54).

4. Remove the retaining ring (30) from both drive shaft flanges (33).

5. Remove the drive shaft flanges (33).

5. Remove the drive shaft flanges (33).

6. Press out the left and right radial oil seals (32a).

6. Press out the left and right radial oil seals (32a).

7. Remove the retaining rings (29).

8. Insert the pin (046) for the differential gears from the right side and press the differential so that it touches the gearbox housing on the left side. Remove both outer rings (11a) of the roller bearings from the gearbox housing.

8. Insert the pin (046) for the differential gears from the right side and press the differential…

9. Remove the differential housing (13) from the gearbox.

10. Remove both inner races (11b) of the tapered roller bearings from the differential housing.

10. Remove both inner races (11b) of the tapered roller bearings from the differential housing.

11. Loosen and unscrew the bolts (13a) securing the driven gear of the main transmission.

12. Remove the final drive driven gear (47a) from the differential (13).

13. Loosen and unscrew the nut (40) securing the flange (41).

14. Remove the flange (41).

15. Remove the main gear pinion (47) from the gearbox.

16. Press out the oil seal (42) from the gearbox.

17. Remove the inner bearing ring (43d).

18. Remove the outer bearing rings (46b), (43e) from the gearbox.

19. Remove the gasket (45).

20. Remove the sleeve (44) with the gasket (48) from the drive gear.

Examination

1. Check all parts for wear and replace if necessary.

2. Check the drive gear (47) and driven gear (47a) for correct numbering.

Assembly and adjustment

1. Press the inner bearing race (46a) onto the drive gear (47).

2. Calculate the thickness of the gasket (45) and install it in the gearbox housing.

3. Install the outer bearing rings (46b), (43e) into the gearbox housing.

4. Install the sleeve (44) with gaskets (48) on both sides onto the drive gear.

5. Install the drive gear (47) into the gearbox (50).

6. Install the inner bearing ring (43d) onto the drive gear and press them in together with the radial oil seal (42).

7. Install the flange (41) onto the drive gear.

8. Tighten the nut (40).

9. Adjust the friction torque in the drive gear bearing.

10. Check the drive gear clearance.

11. Install the driven gear (47a) on the differential (13). To do this, heat the driven gear to a temperature of 75-85°C.

12. Press the inner bearing race (11b) onto the differential.

13. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.

14. Check and adjust the flange axial clearance.

15. Secure the back cover (54).

16. Remove the gearbox from the vice.

Installation

1. Install the gearbox (50).

2. Fill with oil (about 1.2 l)

3. Replace the breather (55) on the rear cover (54).
