1. On manual transmission models, inspect the flywheel contact surfaces for scoring or discoloration caused by overheating. If present, regrind the surfaces or replace the flywheel.
2. If the starter drive ring gear is worn, remove it with a drill or chisel, or knock it off with a hammer if it is quickly heated.
3. Heat the new ring gear to a light straw colour (up to 220°C) and place it on the flywheel, ensuring that the bevel on the teeth is facing the engine.
