The design of the shift drive manual transmission series 717.4 (models ML 230)
1 - Switching rod; 2 - Rod head; 3 - Threaded pin
1. Design details of the 717.4 manual transmission shift drive are shown in the illustration, to which all references in the text refer.
2. Park the vehicle on a level, level ground.
3. Engage neutral gear.
4. Pushing forward (in the direction of travel), move the shift lever with the stem head in place from the center position.
5. Align the stem (1) with head (2).
6. Move the shift lever of the transmission to the center position and engage by tucking the end of the shift rod into the head (2).
7. Avoid turning the stem with the head (1 and 2) and without removing the shift lever from the center position, tighten the grub screw (3).
8. Check the freedom of movement of the blocking pin and the correct longitudinal installation of the switching rods.
9. Remove the locking pin and test the shift actuator with the engine running. Check the engagement gaps of the rods with the lever on the support bracket in all transmission positions.
