To locate leaks, follow these steps:
1. Vehicles with diesel engine. Remove the engine splash guard, see the relevant chapter.
2. Clean the gearbox housing with cold cleaning agent.
3. Sprinkle suspected transmission oil leaks with lime or talc.
4. Perform a test drive. Since the oil becomes more fluid when the engine heats up and leaks faster in places where the seal is broken, the test drive should be about 30 km long.
5. Place the car on jack stands.
Warning: Jacking up or jacking up a vehicle can pose a risk of injury, so please read the safety precautions before attempting to do so.
6. Inspect the gearbox using a flashlight and locate any leaks.
7. Fix leaks.
8. Vehicles with diesel engine: Replace the engine splash guard, see the relevant chapter.
