Contents: Removal ↡ Installation ↡
To facilitate further installation, it is necessary to engage first gear. The gearbox can be removed as part of the power unit or separately through the bottom of the car.

Removal

Disconnecting the speedometer gearbox

Disconnecting the speedometer gearbox

1. Place the vehicle on supports over an inspection pit or on an overpass.

2. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

3. Disconnect the adjusting rod (shaft).

4. Disconnect the exhaust system.

5. Disconnect the throttle control rod from the carburetor.

6. Unload the gearbox from below using a wooden stand.

7. Release the engine mount cushion in the area of the rear gearbox cover.

8. Disconnect the engine cross support from the body floor.

9. Disconnect the exhaust system mounting bracket (marking the location of the washers).

10. Loosen the driveshaft mounting nuts.

11. Loosen the intermediate bearing mounting bolts of the propeller shaft (do not turn inside out).

12. Disconnect the propeller shaft from the gearbox, the gasket remains on the shaft.

13. Move the propeller shaft back as far as it will go.

14. Disconnect the speedometer gearbox and remove the shaft from the mounting bracket.

15. Remove the clutch slave cylinder, move it to the side together with the pipeline and secure it to the vehicle so that it does not interfere.

16. Remove the starter.

17. Disconnect the rods from the gear shift mechanism.

Warning! The gearbox is heavy. Work with insurance and at least two people.

18. Loosen all gearbox mounting bolts (unscrew the two top bolts last).

19. Slide the gearbox off the dowel pins in the axial direction.

20. Lower the gearbox down, making sure that the input shaft has come out of the clutch disc.

Installation

The gearbox is installed in the reverse order.

1. Check the clutch before installation.

2. Lubricate the drive shaft and centering pins with a thin layer of molybdenum-based grease (like Liqui Moly).

3. Install the gearbox.

4. Check the condition of the flexible coupling of the cardan shaft for cracks; replace any damaged ones.

5. Check the oil level in the gearbox.

6. Bleed the clutch drive if necessary

7. Remove the vehicle from the stands.

8. Connect the negative terminal to the battery.
