Checking the wheel installation (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

Correct installation of the front wheels determines the car's controllability both on a straight road and in turns. For example, a sharp run-up to a curb can disrupt the suspension geometry. Wear of joints and elastic rubber elements, as well as unprofessional repairs, negatively affect driving performance. Checking the installation of wheels should be done at a service station, where a special diagnostic stand is used for this. However, you can also assess the violation of the suspension geometry yourself. To do this, it is necessary that the front wheels have tires of the same type and degree of tread wear, and they must have the prescribed pressure.

Sequence of works





1. Pay attention to whether the steering wheel spokes are symmetrical when driving straight ahead. If the steering wheel is shifted to one side, this indicates that the suspension is not set up correctly.

2. Check whether the front wheels are symmetrical in relation to each other when in the straight position.

3. Determine whether the car maintains a straight line on a level road when the steering wheel is released or whether it "pulls" to the side.



4. Check whether the steering wheel returns to its original position on its own after turning.
