Sequence of work
Pic. 7.6. Checking the mudguard of the tie rod joint: 1 - self-locking nut (in fig. already turned away); 2 – rotary fist; 3 – mud-protective cover; 4 – a tip of steering draft
1. Check mudguards 3 (pic. 7.6) tie rod joints for cracks.
2. Check if the hinge has play. To do this, it is better to use a viewing ditch.
3. Turn the wheels in the appropriate direction, take the hinge with your hand and ask the assistant to turn the steering wheel left and right (start the engine for easier turns). If play is found, the hinge must be replaced.
4. Install the car in front on stands and grab the steering rod with your hand. With strong rocking movements, check the hinge play. If there is play, replace the joint.
5. Similar checks can be made on the inner hinge. Before this, it is necessary to remove the cover from the gear rack. The presence of play in the inner joint indicates the need to replace the entire steering rod.
