1. Check the mudguards 3 (Fig. 7.6) of the steering rod joints for cracks.
2. Check if the hinge has any play. It is best to use an inspection ditch for this.
3. Turn the wheels in the appropriate direction, take the joint with your hand and ask the assistant to turn the steering wheel right and left (start the engine to make turns easier). If any play is detected, the joint must be replaced.
4. Place the front of the car on stands and grasp the steering rod with your hand. Check the play of the joint with strong rocking movements. If there is play, replace the joint.
5. Similar checks can be carried out on the inner joint. Before this, it is necessary to remove the cover from the toothed rack. The presence of play in the inner joint indicates the need to replace the entire steering rod.
