To replace the brake cables or brake pads, the automatic cable equalizer must first be pretensioned and then loosened (arrows, fig. 8.27). Corroded or hard to move can cause uneven parking brake action. On older vehicles, it is recommended to replace the rear brake cables in pairs.
Sequence of work
1. Raise and secure the vehicle, remove the rear wheel.
2. Remove the rear wheel brake disc.
3. Remove the rear seat cushion.
4. Remove the center protective cover over the automatic leveler.
5. Pre-tension the equalizer by inserting an Allen key into its center and turning it about half a turn to the right (see fig. 12.27). At the same time, press down at the same time so that the eccentric lock 3 snaps into place with the spring 4. Then release the engagement again with a screwdriver.
6. Disengage return spring 5.
7. Remove front cable 5 (see fig. 12.25) off the lever and release the lever.
8. Remove the rear cables 1 and 3 from the lever, unfasten and slide into the exit holes.
9. Release each cable from the shoe drive lever in the rear wheel brake. To do this, remove the latch.
10. Remove the self-locking bolt from the inside. Remove the rope.
11. After reassembly, loosen the auto leveler and adjust the parking brake.
