Adjusting the parking brake (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

0
If the parking brake pedal drops more than five positions (clicks) and does not provide sufficient locking, adjustment is required. Adjustment is made using the adjusting gear of the brake shoe adjusting mechanism. The parking brake shoes are located inside the brake drums.

Sequence of works

1. Raise the vehicle so that both rear wheels are off the ground. Secure the vehicle.

2. Loosen one wheel bolt on each rear wheel (if the wheels are alloy, remove them completely).

3. Turn the wheel so that the hole from the removed mounting bolt is positioned at an angle of 45° to the horizontal axis of the wheel upwards, towards the rear of the car (fig. 8.23.) Now, using a screwdriver (4-5 mm wide), you can access the installation gear.

4. Release the parking brake and turn the adjusting gear with a screwdriver until the rear wheel stops turning. Then turn the adjusting gear back 5-6 teeth (Fig. 8.24). To turn it back on the left side of the car, turn it from top to bottom, and on the right side, turn it from bottom to top.

5. Press the parking brake pedal several times and note the length of the stroke.

6. Check the rear wheel locking and repeat the adjustment if necessary.
