1. In the engine compartment, disconnect the accelerator cable from the carburetor throttle control lever, first removing the square fastener (see Fig. Accelerator Cable Square Fastener Location). Remove the accelerator cable through the hole in the lever bracket.

2. Squeeze the plastic retainer clips and remove the accelerator cable housing from the bracket (see Fig. Location of the plastic fastening brackets for the accelerator cable sheath).

3. Inside the vehicle, disconnect the return spring and remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal lever.



4. Loosen the adjusting nut and remove the accelerator cable housing through the engine compartment housing seal.

Caution: Do not remove the accelerator cable seal from the engine compartment bulkhead.


5. On the outer bulkhead, remove the rubber seal of the accelerator cable, then remove the cable into the engine compartment.

Installation



1. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Before connecting the accelerator cable to the carburetor lever, adjust the lever and accelerator cable.

1. Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating temperature and turn it off.



2. On vehicles with automatic transmission, disconnect the pressure control cable from the carburetor lever.

3. On models with a STROMBERG carburetor, disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor lever and loosen the screw on the rod attached to the lever (see fig. Carburetor rod and lever). Move the rod to a position where the roller aligns with the idle speed limiter. Hold the rod in this position and secure it with the screw.

4. On models with a PIERBURG carburetor, secure the throttle actuator plunger by pinching the vacuum hose and letting the engine run for a few seconds. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the guide lever and adjust the free play of the rod so that the travel is 0.5 mm.

5. Connect the accelerator cable to the guide lever.

6. On vehicles with a manual transmission, the assistant should press the accelerator pedal all the way down, and on vehicles with an automatic transmission, the accelerator pedal should be pressed so far that it reaches the forced downshift position, but does not engage it.

7. The throttle lever on the carburetor should then move to the throttle opening limiter. To adjust, rotate the adjusting nut in the bracket (see fig. Moving the throttle lever on the carburetor to the throttle opening limiter, Location of the adjusting nut in the bracket).

8. Release the accelerator pedal, and the traction roller should move towards the idle speed limiter on the guide lever.

9. In this position, the end of the accelerator cable sheath should fit snugly against the spring. To adjust, move the fastening nut on the end of the accelerator cable on the accelerator pedal side (see fig. 10. On models with automatic transmission, connect the pressure cable and adjust it.
