Sequence of removing the camshaft bearing caps on a 4-cylinder engine

First of all, bearing caps No.1, 3 and 5 are removed (light arrows), and then bearing caps 2 and 4 (dark arrows).
Sequence of removing the camshaft bearing caps on a 5-cylinder engine

First of all, bearing caps No.1, 2 and 6 are removed (light arrows), and then bearing caps 3, 4 and 5 (dark arrows).
Sequence of removal of camshaft bearing caps on a 6-cylinder engine
Article was obtained from the portal [MercedesMAN]

First of all, bearing caps No.1, 5 and 6 are removed (light arrows), and then bearing caps 2, 3, 4 and 7 (dark arrows).
1. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
2. Check that the camshaft bearing caps are numbered starting from the timing chain.
3. Remove the camshaft bearing cap mounting bolts (see fig. Sequence of removing the camshaft bearing caps on a 4-cylinder engine, Sequence of removing the camshaft bearing caps on a 5-cylinder engine, Sequence of removing the camshaft bearing caps on a 6-cylinder engine).
Caution! Observe the sequence of unscrewing the camshaft cover bolts to avoid damaging the camshaft.
Four-cylinder engines
1. Gradually and evenly loosen the camshaft bearing cap mounting bolts No.1, 3 and 5 and remove the caps.
2. Gradually, in a diagonal sequence, loosen the bolts securing the second and fourth camshaft bearing caps by half a turn each time until the bolts are completely loosened. This is necessary to gradually and evenly relieve the pressure of the valve springs on the camshaft.
3. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head.
Five-cylinder engines
1. Gradually and evenly loosen the camshaft bearing cap mounting bolts No.1, 2 and 6 and remove the caps.
2. Gradually, in a diagonal sequence, loosen the camshaft bearing mounting bolts 3, 4 and 5 by half a turn each time until the bolts are completely loosened. This is necessary to gradually and evenly relieve the pressure of the valve springs on the camshaft.
3. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head.
Six-cylinder engines
Location of the thrust half ring for adjusting the axial clearance of the camshaft

1. Gradually and evenly loosen the camshaft bearing cap mounting bolts No.1, 5 and 6 and remove the caps.
2. Gradually, in a diagonal sequence, loosen camshaft bearing cap mounting bolts 2, 3, 4, and 7 by half a turn each pass until the bolts are completely loosened. This is necessary to gradually and evenly relieve the pressure of the valve springs on the camshaft.
3. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head.
4. Remove the thrust half ring for adjusting the axial play of the camshaft from the rear cover of the camshaft bearing (see fig. Location of thrust half ring for adjusting axial clearance of camshaft).
5. Remove the hydraulic valve lifters from their seats in the cylinder head. Place the hydraulic lifters vertically in a container of clean engine oil so that they can be installed in their proper places.
