Camshaft Sprocket

Removal

1. Remove the auxiliary drive belt.

2. Remove the cylinder head cover.

3. Unscrew the drive chain tensioner mechanism.

4. If present, remove the rear self-leveling suspension pump from the cylinder head. Remove the sealing ring, spacer plate, unscrew the bolt and remove the pump drive bushing from the camshaft.

5. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the top dead center and check that the timing marks of the crankshaft and camshaft are aligned with the pointers. Using paint, apply alignment marks to the camshaft sprocket and timing chain link.

6. Unscrew the bolt and remove the sprocket from the camshaft.

Examination

1. Check the condition of the teeth on the sprocket. The teeth on the sprocket are symmetrical and if the teeth on one side are worn out, the sprocket must be replaced.

Installation

1. Check that the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft are aligned with the pointer. When installing a new camshaft sprocket, apply the same alignment mark to it as on the old sprocket.

2. Aligning the marks, install the chain onto the sprocket.

3. Install the sprocket onto the camshaft. The locating pin on the camshaft flange must fit into the hole in the sprocket. Screw in the bolt and tighten it to the specified torque.

4. If equipped, install the rear self-leveling suspension hydraulic pump drive bushing onto the camshaft and secure with the bolt, tightening it to the specified torque. Install the spacer plate, sealing ring and rear self-leveling suspension hydraulic pump.

5. Screw in the drive chain tensioner.

6. Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the crankshaft one revolution and check that the crankshaft and camshaft marks are aligned with the pointers.

7. Install the cylinder head cover.

8. Install the auxiliary drive belt.

Crankshaft sprocket

Removal

Caution! To remove the sprocket from the crankshaft, you must use a puller.

1. Remove the drive chain cover.

2. Remove the oil pan.

3. Remove the camshaft sprocket.

4. Remove the chain tensioner shoe, oil pump shoe and spring from the pivot pin.

5. Unscrew the bolt and remove the sprocket together with the chain from the oil pump shaft.

6. Using paint, apply alignment marks to the crankshaft sprocket and timing chain link.

7. Using a puller, remove the sprocket and woodruff key from the crankshaft.

8. Remove the woodruff key from the crankshaft keyway.

Examination

1. Check the condition of the teeth on the sprocket. The teeth on the sprocket are symmetrical and if the teeth on one side are worn out, the sprocket must be replaced.

Installation

1. Install the woodruff key into the crankshaft groove.

2. When installing a new crankshaft sprocket, place an alignment mark on it in the same location as on the old sprocket.

3. Aligning the timing marks, install the drive chain first onto the crankshaft sprocket and then onto the camshaft sprocket.

4. Install the oil pump sprocket together with the chain and secure with the bolt, tightening it to the required torque.

5. Install the bushing, spring and shoe of the oil pump drive chain tensioner onto the pivot pin.

6. Install the oil pan.

7. Install the drive chain cover.
