Drive chain tensioning mechanism
Removal
Location of the drive chain on a diesel engine
1 – tension mechanism;
2 – tension mechanism shoe;
3 – upper drive chain guide
1. On the right side of the cylinder head, unscrew the drive chain tensioner mechanism (see Location of the drive chain on a diesel engine).
2. If the drive chain tensioner mechanism is defective, it must be replaced as an assembly.
Installation
1. Before installing the tensioner into the engine, fill it with oil. Place the tensioner in a container with engine oil with the plunger facing down and press the plunger slightly. The plunger of the oil-filled chain tensioner should be pressed slowly and evenly with a little force.
2. Screw the timing chain tensioner into the cylinder heads and tighten it to the specified torque.
