Removing
Location of the drive chain on a diesel engine
1 - tension mechanism;
2 - shoe of the tension mechanism;
3 - the upper damper of the drive chain
1. On the right side of the cylinder head, unscrew the drive chain tensioner (see Drive chain location on a diesel engine).
2. If the drive chain tensioner is defective, it must be replaced as an assembly.
Installation
1. Before installing the tensioner in the engine, fill it with oil. Place the tensioner in a container of engine oil with the plunger down and depress the plunger a little. The plunger of the oil-filled chain tensioner should be pressed slowly and evenly with little force.
2. Screw the drive chain tensioner into the cylinder heads and tighten to the correct torque.
