Note: Before diagnosing suspension or steering problems, make sure that the tire pressures are correct, the tires are the same type, and the brakes are working.
Car pulls to one side
- Tire damaged ("Weekly check").
- Excessive wear in the suspension or steering system (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Incorrect installation of the front wheels (Chapter 10).
- Accidental failure of suspension or steering parts (Chapter 1).
Wheel wobble and vibration
- Front wheel vibration due to imbalance (transmitted mainly through the steering wheel) (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Vibration of the rear wheels due to imbalance (vibration is transmitted to the car body) (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Damaged or warped discs (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Faulty or damaged tire ("Weekly check").
- Worn bushings or parts of the suspension or steering connection (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Loose wheel bolts (Chapter 10).
Excessive pitching or lateral vibrations when cornering or braking
- Defective shock absorbers (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Broken or weakened spring and/or suspension part (Chapter 1 and 10).
- Worn or damaged anti-roll bar (Chapter 10).
"Yaw" or general instability
- Incorrect installation of the front wheels (Chapter 10).
- Wear of bushings or parts of the hinges of the suspension or steering connection (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Wheel imbalance (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Faulty or damaged tire ("Weekly check").
- Loose wheel bolts (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Defective shock absorbers (Chapters 1 and 10).
Steering wheel too tight
- Stuck tie rod end or suspension ball joint (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Broken or slipping accessory drive belt - power steering (Chapter 1).
- Incorrect installation of the front wheels (Chapter 10).
- Bent or damaged tie rod or column (Chapter 10).
Excessive steering play
- Worn steering column universal joint (Chapter 10).
- Worn tie rod ball pins (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Worn steering gear (Chapter 10).
- Worn bushings or parts of the suspension or steering connection (Chapters 1 and 10).
Power steering not working
- Broken or slipping accessory drive belt (Chapter 1).
- Incorrect fluid level ("Weekly checks").
- Clogged hoses (Chapter 1).
- Steering pump defective (Chapter 10).
- Steering gear defective (Chapter 10).
Excessive tire wear
Tire wear on the inside or outside of the tread
- Low tire pressure (wear on both edges) ("Weekly check").
- Incorrect camber or toe angle (wear on one side only) (Chapter 10).
- Worn bushings or suspension or steering connection components (Chapters 1 and 10).
- Too tight turns.
- The result of an accident.
Tread edge clogging
- Incorrect wheel alignment (Chapter 10).
Tire wear in the center of the tread
- High tire pressure ("Weekly check").
Tire wear at the edges of the tread
- Low tire pressure ("Weekly check").
Tires wear unevenly
- Tire imbalance ("Weekly check").
- Excessive wheel or tire runout (Chapter 1).
- Worn shock absorbers (Chapter 1 and 10).
- Tire faulty ("Weekly check").
