Removal
1. Remove the timing chain.
2. Remove the rear crankshaft cover together with the oil seal.
3. Remove the connecting rod caps.
4. Mark the connecting rod bearings and caps of each cylinder.
5. Unscrew the main bearing caps 2 and the installation cap 2a (see figure 5.30). Mark the lower main bearing shells 21 and the lower thrust shims 22. The main bearing caps 2 and the mounting cap 2a are numbered sequentially, starting with the front cap 2 (see figure 5.31).

Installation
7. Install crankshaft 20 into the cylinder block. Lubricate the upper bearing shells before installing crankshaft 20. The oil passages in thrust washers 22 and 23 must be installed with the flanges facing upwards. The main bearing cap thrust washers each have two locking lugs to prevent them from rotating.
8. Install the main bearing caps 2 and the mounting cap 2a. Before installing the lower bearing shells, they must be lubricated.
9. Check the mounting bolts 3 of the main bearing caps 2 and cap 2a and install them.
10. Lubricate the threaded portion and tighten the main bearing cap bolts.
11. Insert the connecting rod caps and tighten their mounting bolts.
12. Rotate crankshaft 20 to check its ease of rotation.
13. Install the crankshaft rear cover together with the oil seal.
14. Install the timing chain.
