Warning and indicator lights on the instrument panel

Check Engine Light (Check Engine Light)

When the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 2, the indicator lamp lights up.

It goes out when the engine is running.

If the indicator lamp comes on while the engine is running, there may be a fault in the fuel injection system, ignition system or exhaust system.

Exhaust emission limits may be exceeded.

Note: Contact a service station as soon as possible "Mercedes-Benz" to check the car.

Brake system warning light

When the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 2, the indicator lamp lights up.

It goes out when the engine is running.

If this indicator light comes on while the engine is running, the parking brake is not released or there is too little brake fluid in the brake reservoir due to a leak.

There is a risk of accident!

If the brake fluid level in the receiver has dropped below normal, this may lead to failure of the brake system!

Do not add brake fluid.

You cannot continue moving.

You must contact the service station "Mercedes-Benz".

SRS Safety System Warning Light (Supplemental Restraint System)

When the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 1 or 2, the indicator lamp lights up for approximately 4 seconds. This confirms that the occupant restraint systems are working properly (airbags, seat belt tensioners and automatic child seat recognition system).

If it does not light up, does not go out for a long time, does not go out at all, flashes or lights up while driving, then there is a malfunction.

There is a risk of accident!

If there is a malfunction, the passenger restraint systems may not operate in an emergency situation. In extremely rare cases, the airbags or seat belt tensioners may also operate spontaneously.

Proceed with caution to the nearest service station "Mercedes-Benz"!

(Airbags, seat belt tensioners and automatic child seat recognition are discussed in Section Security systems).

Fuel reserve warning light

If the "1" warning light on the fuel gauge comes on while the engine is running, the fuel reserve has been reached.

Electronic Traction Control (ESP) Warning Light

When the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 2, a warning light comes on in the speedometer. It goes out when the engine is running.

If the warning light comes on or flashes while driving, refer to the "Electronic Traction Control (ESP)" section of Section Vehicle control and auxiliary systems.

The warning light comes on or flashes while driving - refer to the subsection "Electronic traction control (ESP)" in Section Vehicle control and auxiliary systems.

Distronic (DTR) warning light

When the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 2, a warning light comes on in the speedometer. It goes out when the engine is running.

If the warning light comes on while driving, refer to the "Distronic System" (DTR) subsection of Section Vehicle control and auxiliary systems.

Note: For vehicles without the "Distronic" system, the lamp has no function.

It lights up when the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 2 and goes out when the engine is running.

ABS warning light

When the electronic key in the ignition switch is turned to position 2, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) indicator lamp lights up. It goes out when the engine is running.

If this warning lamp lights up while the engine is running, the ABS system has been disabled due to a malfunction. In this case, the normal braking effect of the brake system without the anti-lock function remains available.

If the ABS control unit fails, there is a risk of failure of other systems, such as the "Parktronic", navigation system and automatic transmission.

If the ABS system malfunctions, the electronic traction control system (ESP) and the brake assist system (BAS) are switched off. The warning system indicators and fault signals appear on the multi-information display.

Contact the service station "Mercedes-Benz" to check the ABS system.

Note: When the electrical voltage drops below approximately 10 V, the indicator lamp on the instrument panel also lights up and the ABS system is disabled. When the voltage rises above the specified value, the indicator lamp goes out and the ABS system is ready for operation again.

Warning and indicator lamp on the center console

AIRBAG-OFF control lamp

When you turn the ignition key to position 1 or 2, the indicator lamp comes on for approximately 6 seconds .

If it does not light up, there is a malfunction.

Control lamp illuminates continuously when a child seat with child seat recognition is installed in the front passenger seat and indicates that the front passenger airbag is deactivated. (The automatic child seat recognition system is discussed in Section Security systems).

Indication of warning system and fault signalling on the multi-information display

Warning system indications and fault signals for the following systems appear immediately on the multi-information display. They are divided into three categories.

Category K1: Highest priority alerts.

They cannot be activated by pressing the R button on the dashboard.

Categories K2 and K3: Medium and low priority alerts.

They can be activated by pressing the R button on the instrument panel and are then stored in the fault memory (Section Multifunctional steering wheel, multi-information display).

Note: For certain warning and malfunction signaling system indications, an additional audible signal is emitted. For red warning and malfunction signaling system indications, an audible signal is always emitted.

Warning system indications and fault signalling, such as:, "TRUNK OPEN" (THE TRUNK IS OPEN) are not recorded in the memory as fault indication.

  • 1 Stop the vehicle immediately. Do not turn off the engine. If the indicator does not go out after 5 minutes, arrange for the vehicle to be towed to a service station.

Attention! When the indication appears "AIR SPRING STOP, CAR TOO LOW!" (AIR SUSPENSION, STOP, INSUFFICIENT GROUND CLEARANCE) from a certain steering wheel angle onwards, free wheel movement is no longer ensured. If the steering wheel is turned too far, the fender is damaged.

  • 2 The system's functionality is limited.

Attention! When the indication appears "AIR SPRING VISIT WORKSHOP" (AIR SUSPENSION, CONTACT YOUR SERVICE STATION) do not exceed the maximum speed of 80 km/h.

  • 1 The engine oil level should be checked immediately (refer to the Engine Oil Level Warning Light section).
  • 2 There is no oil in the engine. There is a risk of engine damage.
  • 3 There is a risk of damage to the engine or catalytic converter. The engine oil level should be checked immediately (refer to the Engine Oil Level Warning Light section).
  • 4 The engine oil level has dropped to a critical level. The level should be checked immediately (Engine oil level warning indicator - Section Multifunctional steering wheel, multi-information display and Chapter Routine maintenance) and perform a visual inspection for oil leaks. It is also possible that the engine oil contains water. Check the engine oil.
  • 5 The measuring system is faulty.

Oil temperature (engine oil temperature)
