Warning signal and control lamps on the dashboard
Dashboard - see section Dashboard.
ABS warning lamp
When the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 2, the anti-lock brake warning light comes on (ABS).
It goes off when the engine is running.
If this warning lamp illuminates while the engine is running, the anti-lock brake system has been disabled due to a malfunction (ABS).
In this case, the standard brake system works without anti-lock function.
If the ABS control unit malfunctions, there is a risk of malfunctions of other systems, such as systems «Parktronic», navigation system and automatic transmission. (Automatic transmission emergency mode - see Section Vehicle control and assistance systems).
In the event of a malfunction of the ABS system, the electronic anti-skid system is also switched off (ESP) and emergency brake booster (BAS).
The indication of the warning and alarm system appears on the universal display.
Contact the service station immediately «Mercedes-Benz» to check the ABS system».
Note. If the electrical voltage drops below 10 V, the control lamp on the dashboard also lights up and the ABS system is disabled. If the voltage rises above the specified value, the control lamp goes out and the ABS system is ready for operation again.
(Anti-lock brake system (ABS) - see Section Vehicle control and assistance systems).
Brake warning lamp
When the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 2, the control lamp lights up.
It goes off when the engine is running.
If this warning light comes on while the engine is running, the parking brake is not released or there is too little brake fluid in the brake reservoir due to leakage.
Electronic anti-skid warning light (ESP)
When the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 2, the warning light on the speedometer lights up. It goes off when the engine is running.
If the warning light comes on or flashes while driving, see «Electronic anti-skid system (ESP)» (Chapter Vehicle control and assistance systems).
Lamp without function. It lights up when the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 2 and goes out when the engine is running.
Control lamp for engine diagnostics. When the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 2, the control lamp lights up.
It goes off when the engine is running.
If the warning lamp comes on while the engine is running, there may be a problem with the fuel injection system, the ignition system, or the exhaust system.
Exhaust emission limits may be exceeded.
Note. Contact the service station immediately «Mercedes-Benz» to check the car.
DTR Lamp without function. It lights up when the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 2 and goes out when the engine is running.
Seat belt overlay warning light.
Turning the key in the ignition switch from position 1 to position 2 will illuminate the warning light on the instrument panel for approximately 6 seconds. This reminds you to put on your seat belts before starting off.
SRS SRS warning lamp (Supplemental Restraint System)
When the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 1, the control lamp lights up for approximately 4 seconds.
In position 2, the control lamp is constantly on and goes out when the engine is running.
This confirms the operability of passenger safety systems (airbags, seat belt tensioners and automatic child seat recognition).
If it does not light up, does not go out for a long time, does not go out at all, flashes or lights up while driving, then there is a malfunction.
There is a danger of an accident!
If there is a malfunction, the passenger safety systems may not work in an emergency. In exceptionally rare cases, it is also possible for the airbags or seat belt tensioners to deploy spontaneously.
Drive carefully to the nearest service station «Mercedes-Benz»!
Fuel Reserve Warning Light
If the warning light (1) on the fuel reserve indicator lights up when the engine is running, which means that the fuel reserve has been reached. Additionally, the indication appears on the universal display «RESERVE FUEL» (FUEL RESERVE) «VISIT FILLING STATION» (REFILL FUEL).
After refuelling, the next time the ignition is switched on, the universal display will show «1 MALFUNCTION» (1 FAULT). This indication must be removed.
Warning and indicator lamp in center console
Pilot lamp AIRBAG-OFF.
When the key is turned in the ignition switch to position 1 or 2, the indicator lamp lights up for approximately 4 seconds.
If it does not light up, then there is a malfunction.
The warning light is permanently on when a child seat with child seat recognition is installed on the front passenger seat and indicates that the front passenger airbag is deactivated.
(Automatic child seat recognition system - see Section Security systems).
Indication of the warning system and fault signaling on the universal display
Warning and fault indications for the following systems appear immediately on the universal display.
They fall into three categories.
Category K1. Top priority messages.
The fault is displayed on the universal display until the fault is corrected.
Categories K2 and K3. Medium and low priority messages.
These messages can be cleared from the display while still being stored in the fault indication memory (Chapter Multifunction steering wheel, universal display). To delete, press the , or button on the universal steering wheel, or the reset button on the dashboard (Chapter Multifunction steering wheel, universal display).
Note.
- Certain system messages are additionally confirmed by an audible signal.
- When red indications of the warning and fault signaling system appear, an audible signal is additionally heard.
- When red indications of the warning and fault signaling system appear, an audible signal always sounds.
- Warning and fault indications, such as «TRUNK OPEN!» (TRUNK IS OPEN!) are not stored in the fault indication memory.
