Injectors — General Description (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

The injectors are installed in the upper part of the cylinder head and are designed to supply fuel to the cylinder (pre-chamber). The injector needle rises at a pressure in the lower part of the injector from 115 to 125 bar and opens a channel in the sprayer. A powerful injector spring ensures complete closure of the spray channel to prevent backflow from the chamber. The fuel cools and lubricates the needle. To remove excess fuel (the so-called "return"), two short hoses are connected to the injector.

Vortex injection



To improve the efficiency of the combustion process, swirl injection nozzles are used. Thanks to this, the emission of unburned products in diesel engines has decreased by an average of 40% without deteriorating other characteristics.

This is achieved by a pre-chamber with indirect fuel injection. Along with the injection direction, an important role is played by a special guide channel built into the pre-chamber, due to the shape and location of which the air compressed by the cylinder and entering the pre-chamber forms a strictly vortex flow. Fuel is injected in the direction of the flow at an angle of 5°. The glow plug is located in the descending part of the flow and does not interfere with the combustion process.
