Automatic Shift Assist (ARA) (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

This system is installed on cars with a manual gearbox. An electromagnet on the high-pressure fuel pump minimizes fuel supply at the right moment, thereby preventing "shocks" when switching. The electromagnet is controlled by the control unit. Through the starter gear speed sensor, the unit "recognizes" fluctuations in the number of revolutions at each individual revolution of the engine.

If errors occur in the electrical system, the control unit detects them and stores them in the memory for diagnostics in the workshop. The system is then optimized at the Mercedes-Benz service station using a test connection. This is specifically designed to eliminate beating and hard switching.
