Structure of the repair manual (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

0
This Manual includes a summary and three sections: "Theory", "Maintenance" and "Repair".

"Theory". This section contains a description of the structure of units, parts, mechanisms and their interaction. Here you will also find the subsection "Technical Dictionary", which explains special terms.

"Service". Detailed instructions step by step present all necessary works. The subsection "Work symbols" characterizes the time spent on each action, the degree of labor intensity and the danger to personnel and the environment that arises during the work.

"Repair". In the chapter of this subsection "Sequence of Works" all work performed is described in detail. The chapter "Practical advice" will help you when replacing units and parts and when unclear questions arise.

Chapter "Repair" also contains a subsection "Possible malfunctions and ways to eliminate them", which helps to determine the cause and eliminate the most common malfunctions of units and systems.

The illustrations in the book provide a clear idea of the design of units and assemblies and the operations performed for their maintenance and repair.

To explain the basic terms, definitions and brief descriptions of the purpose and functioning of units and systems, the book includes chapters entitled "Technical Dictionary".

Below is a sample of the design of the "Technical Dictionary".

Note: Cylinder block. Inside it are located the moving parts of the engine. For most engines, the cylinder block is made of gray cast iron. Such units as the starter, generator, and ignition system components are also mounted on the cylinder block.

A sample of the tables with a list of precise sequential operations for maintenance and repair is given below as an example. It also indicates what should be paid attention to during repair.

Sequence of works

(30,000 km 2 years)

1. Remove the intake manifold. For diesel: remove the intake manifold. For both engines, disconnect the electrical wiring.

2. Loosen the six cylinder head cover bolts and carefully remove the cover. If the cover fits tightly to the head, remove it by gently tapping it with your hand or a hammer handle.

3. To measure compression and check the serviceability of the valves of one of the cylinders, the intake and exhaust valves must be completely closed. To do this, turn the camshaft to the position where both cams of the first cylinder (in the direction of movement to the right) will be symmetrically in the upper position (in this case it is necessary to follow the OT marking). This position corresponds to the top dead center.

The "Possible malfunctions" subsection will help you identify breakdowns and defects on your car. A sample of the design of tables of possible malfunctions of units, assemblies and systems, their causes and methods of elimination is given below.

The "Practical Advice" subsection allows you to quickly and effectively detect a malfunction and eliminate it. A sample of the "Practical Advice" table is given below.
