Gasoline engines
1. Unscrew the spark plugs, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition unit and remove the fuel pump relay.
2. Crank the engine with the starter until the oil pressure warning lamp goes out, then connect the electrical connector to the ignition unit, install the fuel pump relay, screw in the spark plugs and connect the high voltage wires to them.
Diesel engines
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine stop solenoid valve at the high pressure fuel pump.
2. Crank the engine with the starter until the oil pressure warning light goes out, then connect the electrical connector to the engine stop solenoid valve.
3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition key to position 2 and wait until the glow plug preheat indicator light goes out.
All engines
1. Start the engine. It may take longer to start the engine than usual due to the shutdown of the fuel system.
2. With the engine idling, check for fuel, coolant, and oil leaks. At this stage of engine operation, smell and smoke can be observed from heated parts of the engine when oil burns out that got on the engine during assembly.
3. Let the engine idle until the coolant is warm, which can be felt through the top radiator hose, then turn off the engine.
4. After the engine has cooled down, check the oil and coolant levels.
5. When installing new pistons, piston rings or crankshaft bearings in the engine, the engine must be run in during the first 800 km. Do not operate the engine at wide open throttle or under heavy load at low engine speeds. It is recommended to change the oil and oil filter at the end of the break-in period.
