1. Remove the crankshaft from the cylinder block.

2. If equipped, check that oil sprayers are installed in the cylinder block.

3. Clean the rear of the bearing and its installation location in the cylinder block and main bearing caps. Install the bearings in their places.

4. Install the upper thrust half rings to adjust the crankshaft axial play as follows:

- on 4-cylinder engines on the central main bearing No.3;

- on 5-cylinder engines on main bearing No.4;

– on 6-cylinder engines on main bearing No.5.

5. Lubricate the working surface of the liners with clean engine oil and install the crankshaft into the engine cylinder block.

6. Lubricate the lower bearing shells in the main bearing caps with clean engine oil and check that the tabs on the shells are in the grooves in the cap.

7. Install the main bearing caps in their places according to the marking. Check that the thrust half rings are on the corresponding main bearing cap.

8. Lubricate the crankshaft bearing cap bolts with clean engine oil, insert them into the caps and tighten them by hand. On 6-cylinder DOHC engines, the main bearing cap bolts without threaded holes for the oil catch can bolt in the head are installed on the drive chain side. Before installing the bolts, install the oil pickup tube mounting bracket.

9. Tighten the bearing cap bolts gradually and in a diagonal sequence from the center to the edge in several stages (see fig. Tightening the main bearing cap mounting bolt to the required torque, Tightening the main bearing cap mounting bolt by turning it to a certain angle).

10. Check that the crankshaft rotates smoothly and without sticking.

11. Install a new O-ring into the crankshaft rear cover, then install the cover with a new gasket or a thin layer of sealant onto the cylinder block (see Fig. Applying a thin layer of sealant to the mating surface of the crankshaft rear cover on 6-cylinder DOHC gasoline engines, Tightening the crankshaft rear cover mounting bolts on 6-cylinder DOHC engines).

12. Install the pistons with connecting rods.

13. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly, taking into account the following points.

14. On 4-cylinder engines, install the crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, timing chain cover, oil pan, and flywheel/drive plate.

15. On 6-cylinder SOHC gasoline engines, install the crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, lower timing chain cover, oil pump, oil pan, and flywheel/drive plate.

16. On 6-cylinder DOHC gasoline engines, install the crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, lower timing chain cover, oil pump, oil catch plate, oil pan, and flywheel/drive plate.

17. On diesel engines, install the crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, timing chain cover, oil pump, oil catch plate, oil pan and flywheel/drive plate.
