Contents: Removal ↡ Installation ↡

Removal

1. Remove the ground cable from the battery.

2. Relieve pressure in the fuel system.

3. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle guide lever. On automatic transmission models, disconnect the pressure control cable from the throttle linkage. On models with vehicle speed control, remove the accelerator linkage from the throttle actuator assembly.

4. Remove the wiring harness and unscrew the wiring harness bracket from the intake manifold.

5. Unscrew the engine oil dipstick tube.

6. Remove the air filter.

7. On all models except DOHC 6-cylinder engines, remove the cold start valve from the intake manifold.

8. Remove the fuel line and air flow sensor.

9. Remove the throttle body.

10. On SOHC 6-cylinder models with vehicle speed control, remove the throttle actuator and bracket from the intake manifold.

11. On 4-cylinder models, label and disconnect the hoses from the idle air distributor.

12. Unscrew the union nut and disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the manifold.

13. Label and disconnect the remaining electrical connectors and vacuum hoses from the intake manifold.

14. Unscrew and remove the intake manifold support brackets. Check that nothing else is preventing the intake manifold from being removed.

15. Remove the nuts and bolts and remove the intake manifold from the cylinder head. Remove the intake manifold gasket.

16. If necessary, loosen the bolts and separate the upper and lower intake manifold. When assembling the upper and lower intake manifold, a new gasket must be used.

17. Using caution and a plastic or wooden scraper, clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and intake manifold.

Installation

1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points.

2. Check that the mating surfaces of the intake manifold and cylinder head are free of any traces of old gasket.

3. Adjust the accelerator cable.

4. On models with automatic transmission, adjust the pressure control cable operation.

5. Check and adjust idle speed if necessary.
