Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the cylinder head cover 3 (see figure 3.12).

3. Unscrew the nut securing the exhaust manifold 2 to the catalytic converter.
4. Remove spark plugs 1.
5. Set camshafts 4 to their basic position.
6. Remove the upper timing belt cover 5.
7. Remove thermostat 6.
8. Unscrew bolt 7 securing crankshaft pulleys 8 and remove them.
9. Lock the camshafts 4 using the adjusting tool 9.
10. Unscrew bolt 10 securing the upper guide arm 11 and remove it.
11. Loosen bolts 12 securing the cylinder head to the cylinder block 14 (see figure 3.13).

12. Remove the cylinder head 13.
Installation
13. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Replace the cylinder head gasket 15. Before installing the cylinder head, lubricate the threaded portion and the contact surfaces of the bolts. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the correct tightening sequence (see figure 3.14). Do not install the camshaft pulleys with the adjusting tool still installed. Check the basic position of the camshafts.
