1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands.

2. Remove the nuts and U-shaped bracket securing the exhaust pipe to the transmission bracket (see Fig. Location of nuts securing the exhaust inlet pipe to the gearbox bracket).

3. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust pipe bracket to the gearbox (see Fig. Location of bolts securing the exhaust pipe bracket to the gearbox).

4. On SOHC 6-cylinder gasoline engine models, unscrew and remove the heat shield from the underside of the manifold.

5. Using a jack, support the front of the exhaust system with a jack and disconnect the exhaust header pipe from the exhaust manifold.

6. On gasoline models, remove the air filter.

7. Mark the location of the retaining clip and unscrew the dipstick tube. On fuel-injected models, unscrew the air injector from the exhaust manifold and move it to the side. On EGR models, unscrew the EGR valve and remove the tubes from the exhaust manifold.

8. Unscrew the exhaust manifold mounting nuts and remove the manifold from the cylinder head struts. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket. On models with 6-cylinder engines, the exhaust manifold consists of two parts. On diesel engines with a turbocharger, the two parts of the exhaust manifold are connected by a pipe (see Fig. Removing the Front Section of the Exhaust Manifold from the Cylinder Head on a 3.0L DOHC Gasoline Engine, Exhaust Manifold on a 3.0L Turbocharged 6-Cylinder Diesel Engine). Loosen the clamps securing the connecting pipe and separate the two parts of the exhaust manifold.

Installation

1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points.

2. Using caution and a plastic or wooden scraper, clean the mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.

3. On 6-cylinder SOHC gasoline engines, the flanged edge of the intake manifold gasket should face the manifold.

4. Use new nuts on the exhaust manifold mounts.
