Contents: Before launch ↡ Starting a cold engine ↡ Starting a hot engine ↡ Engine stop ↡ Instructions ↡

Before launch

Before starting the engine, secure the vehicle by applying the parking brake.

On manual transmission models, place the gearshift lever in neutral, and on automatic transmission models, place the selector lever in P or N.

Starting a cold engine

Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 2. In this case, the battery charging indicator light will light up, and on models with diesel engines, the diesel engine preheating system operation indicator light will also light up. Switching off the warning light of the diesel engine preheating system indicates that the engine can be started.

Outside air temperature above 0°C

Without pressing the accelerator pedal, turn the key in the ignition switch to the right until it stops and release the key after the engine starts.

Outside temperature below 0°C

Smoothly press the clutch and accelerator pedals. Turn the ignition key to the right until it stops and after the engine starts, release the key, and then smoothly release the accelerator pedal.

It is not recommended to interrupt the engine starting process, since if the engine is cold, it is possible that the engine will not start upon repeated attempt.

Starting a hot engine

Turn the key in the ignition switch to the right until it stops and release the key after the engine starts.

Engine stop

Stop the car, lock it in this position and turn the key in the ignition switch to position 0.

After high engine operating conditions, such as driving in mountainous conditions, do not turn off the engine immediately after stopping, but let it run for at least 1 minute at idle speed to avoid heat stagnation.

Instructions

If the engine does not start on the first attempt, turn off the ignition and after 20-30 seconds, try to turn on the starter again. It is not recommended to turn on the starter for more than 10-15 seconds.

Since the ignition switch has a lock to prevent restarting of a running engine, before restarting the engine, turn the key in the ignition switch to position 0.

After starting the engine, first of all, pay attention to the oil pressure. Do not increase the speed of a cold engine until the oil pressure is as required.

If the diesel engine preheating indicator lamp does not light when the engine is started, contact a service station.

If the vehicle is constantly operated in regions where the air temperature is below -18°C, it is recommended to contact a Mercedes-Benz service station and install a coolant heating unit.
