Automatic transmission

The automatic transmission engages the appropriate gear depending on the position of the gear selector lever, the vehicle speed and the position of the accelerator pedal.

Caution! When working on a vehicle with the engine running, apply the parking brake and set the selector lever to position P.

Move the selector lever to the desired position only when the engine is idling. Apply the parking brake before moving the selector, otherwise the car will start moving immediately.

Acceleration of the car depending on the position of the accelerator pedal

When the accelerator pedal is pressed slightly, the gearbox shifts to a higher gear earlier and the car accelerates slowly.

(Full article available on the resource: «www.mercedesman.ru»)

When the accelerator pedal is pressed hard, the gearbox shifts to a higher gear later and the car accelerates quite rapidly.

When you press the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it in this position, the gearbox is forced to shift to a lower gear and the car accelerates with maximum acceleration.

Selector lever position

P – Parking. This position should only be set when the vehicle is stopped. The drive wheels are locked in this position and prevent the vehicle from moving. The parking brake must also be applied. It is prohibited to set the lever in this position when the vehicle is moving.

R – Reverse. This position should only be selected when the vehicle is stopped and the engine is idling.

N – Neutral position. This position should be set when starting the engine and idling it. When the brakes are released, the car moves freely.

D – Forward movement. Normal position when moving.

3 – The car moves only in the first three gears.

2 – Driving only in first and second gear. Used when driving without a trailer on roads with ascents or descents in the mountains or driving at speeds up to 40 km/h.
