Removal and installation the front suspension assembly (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123)

1. Remove the shock absorbers and suspension springs (see Removal and installation front suspension springs and Checking, removing and installing shock absorbers).

2. Loosen the tie rod end nut and use a puller to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

3. Disconnect the flexible brake hose and brake pad wear sensor wires from the brake caliper (see Hoses and pipelines).

4. Unscrew the bolt securing the support arm to the bottom of the body.

5. Place a jack trolley under the suspension.

6. Mark the relative positions of the inner eccentric bolt discs of the lower suspension arm relative to the crossmember, then unscrew the nut and remove the discs and bolt.

7. Unscrew the bolts securing the anti-roll bar to the upper suspension arm. Mark the position of the washers and rubber bushings.

8. In the engine compartment, unscrew the nut, fix the position and press out the inner pivot bolt of the upper suspension arm.

9. Remove the front suspension assembly from under the vehicle.

10. Conduct a defect inspection of the parts, paying special attention to rubber products, and replace them if necessary.

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Pay attention to bleeding the brake system and installing the front wheels, especially their camber.
