Checking the hydraulic compensator (Mercedes-Benz Vito W638)

1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature (approximately 80°C). Check the oil level and adjust it if necessary. Remove the cylinder head cover 1 (see figure 4.27a, 4.276).

2. Rotate the camshaft until cam 2 of the desired valve is directed with the conical part upwards.

3. Check the hydraulic compensator by pressing it with a rod using normal force by hand. Do not use a metal rod. If one of the hydraulic lifters drops faster than the others, it must be replaced.
