The Vario is available as a panel van or bus body, as a chassis, chassis with body, flatbed or tipper platform, including with a double cab. Trucks are represented by the Vario range of frame construction with a gross weight of 3.5-8.2 t, which is offered with a 4x2 or 4x4 wheel arrangement (models 814DA and 815DA), several wheelbase sizes (3150-4800 mm) and two types of diesel engines OM602LA and OM904 LA with turbocharging and intermediate cooling - 5 and 4-cylinder and a working volume of 2874 and 4250 cm³, respectively.
The bus is available in one of two modifications: Standard - with a capacity of 22 + 1 people (23 + 1 t school bus) and Coach - 19 + 1 or 15 + 1 people. Externally, they differ in the glazing of the side panels. Several interior trim options and a variety of additional equipment are available upon request.
Since September 2000, the 4.25-litre engine, producing 136 and 152 hp, has been available on request in versions that comply with Euro-3 standards. The engines are very economical - the bus's range reaches 900 km.
A 5- or 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission is available upon request. The front suspension is a spring-lever type, the rear suspension is dependent, with single-leaf springs, or adjustable pneumatic. All wheels have ventilated disc brakes, equipped with ABS. A three-mode retarder can be installed upon request.
To meet specific customer requirements, there is a rich arsenal of additional equipment: from comfortable seats, air conditioning and heating to power take-off boxes, as well as more than 100 serial and special paints.
Thanks to a number of technical innovations, the service interval for the bus has been increased to 45 thousand km.
