Do-it-yourself engine oil change (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 903)

A fairly powerful suction pump is used to pump oil through the dipstick tube. There are electric and manual devices available for sale. Some devices are designed to be connected to a vehicle's battery. The cheapest devices usually have low power, so the pumping process takes quite a long time. In addition, the oil can be easily drained, since the oil drain hole is easily accessible.

The replacement requires 9.5 liters of oil and a new oil filter (for both engine types).

When changing the oil, you must adhere to the following order:

before starting work, warm up the engine while driving (the journey takes about 10 minutes);
place the front of the car on a slight elevation, remove the protective cover from the front of the engine;
remove the oil filler cap from the cylinder head;
loosen the oil drain plug from the bottom of the crankcase;
place a wide container under the drain and unscrew the plug completely. Be careful - hot oil flows faster;
when the oil has drained, screw the oil drain plug with a new gasket into the crankcase and carefully tighten it (25 Nm);
replace the oil filter as described in subsection 3.6;
start the engine;
check the oil level and the tightness of the drain hole and filter. If necessary, tighten the filter.
