Causes of sediment formation in oil (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 903)

The introduction of modern injection systems and catalytic converters leads to increased sediment formation in engine oil during operation of engines of all manufacturers. Dense sediment prevents engine lubrication by clogging oil passages, which can result in engine failure. Oil contamination can be seen on the inside of the removed cylinder head cover or if you run your finger along the bottom of the crankcase with the oil drain plug removed.

The main reasons for sediment formation:

• the intervals between oil changes are so long that the oil almost completely exhausts its resource. Therefore, follow the oil change instructions carefully;
• some oil manufacturers use additional additives that prevent sludge formation and wear. A Mercedes branded service station can provide a list of oils recommended for use - contact the branded service;
• changing the oil at a branded service will be expensive, primarily because they only use expensive types of oil, but they meet the latest Mercedes regulations;
• when changing at a gas station, you can choose oil from a wider range and at a lower price. The cost of replacement work is included in the cost of the oil.
