Figure 129. Oil filter parts (2.9L engine): 1 - filter element; 2 — filter housing cover; 3 - sealing gasket; 4 - oil filter sealing rings (2 pcs.); 5 — filter housing mounting bolt; 6 - drain hole bolt; 7 - sealing ring; 8 — filter housing

Figure 128 shows the location of the filter on a 2.3L engine. The filter structure is shown in the figure 129. Removal and installation must be performed in the following order:
  • unscrew the oil filter. To do this, unscrew the screw on the cover at the top of the filter (see figure 128) and remove the filter element. Allow the oil to drain into the filter housing;
  • finally remove the filter element from the housing and remove the gasket. Also remove the small sealing rings;
  • insert a new filter element with new gaskets, screw on the filter cover and tighten it. Pay attention to the correct installation of sealing gaskets;
  • check the oil level if only the filter element was replaced. If necessary, add oil to the engine;
  • start the engine and let it run. After stopping, check the engine for oil leaks.
