Replacing the oil filter (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123)

1. The oil filter should be replaced every 10,000 km on engines produced before 1980 and every 8,000 km on engines produced after 1980.

2. Place a container under the oil filter, unscrew the central bolt of the filter housing, drain the oil and remove the filter element.

3. Wash the filter housing with kerosene and dry. If necessary, remove the spring seat and bolt from the housing and replace the O-ring.

4. Insert the new element, install the housing and tighten the central bolt. Turn the housing to ensure that the sealing ring is correctly positioned in its seat.
