Attention! Prolonged skin contact with used engine oil is quite dangerous. Use barrier cream and wear gloves during this procedure. Change oil-soaked clothing immediately.
Note. Regular and frequent engine oil changes are the number one preventive maintenance procedure available to the amateur mechanic. Over time, the oil is susceptible to dilution and contamination, which leads to premature engine wear.
Engine oil can be pumped out using a special probe (available at petrol stations) through the oil dipstick tube. After that, it is usually necessary to fill the system with oil.
Do not dispose of used oil with household waste or in any other way. This may cause environmental pollution.
When changing the oil, it is advisable to attach a tag to the engine with the brand of oil and its viscosity.
The use of oils of various types adversely affects the operation of the engine. It is also not recommended to mix different brands of oils. Engine oils of the same type and brand, but of different viscosities, if necessary, in particular in the off-season, can be mixed.
Required tool:
- Inspection pit or hydraulic lift with stands (if the oil is not being sucked out).
- Head for unscrewing the drain plug.
- Special tool for unscrewing the filter (filter wrench, strap wrench or tool HAZET 2172).
- Oil collection tank (if the oil is not being sucked out) with a capacity of at least 6 liters.
Necessary spare parts and consumables:
- Only if oil is not being sucked out: aluminum or copper O-ring for drain plug (sometimes supplied with an oil filter).
- Oil filter.
- Required amount of engine oil. Use manufacturer approved oil, refer to Specifications.
Removal of impellent oil
Note. Engine oil can also be removed by suction, using a probe, through the dipstick hole.
Warm up the engine to operating temperature (oil temperature +60°C).
Raise the car horizontally.
Place a container under the oil pan to collect used oil.
Remove from sump (2) drain plug (1) and drain the oil completely.
Attention! If there is a large amount of metal chips and wear products in the used oil, this indicates the presence of scoring, for example, in crankshaft bearings and connecting rod bearings. To prevent damage after the repair, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the oil channels and hoses. In addition, it is necessary, if any, to replace the oil cooler.
Then it is necessary to screw in the drain plug with a new sealing ring. Do not exceed the specified Specifications tightening torques, otherwise it may cause leakage and damage.
Lower the car onto its wheels.
Oil filter replacement
Unscrew the oil filter from below. A special tool is available for unscrewing the oil filter, e.g. HAZET 2172 (2). You can also pierce the filter (1) side with a screwdriver, - get ready to collect the spilled oil.
Clean the oil filter flange with fuel. Remove any gasket residue from the flange.
Lubricate the new oil filter gasket with a thin layer of engine oil.
Tighten the new oil filter firmly by hand only. After the gasket is seated against the flange, tighten the filter an additional half turn. Pay attention to the notes on the filter housing.
Tighten the drain plug with a new ring as specified in Specifications moment.
Refueling of impellent oil
Attention! When starting the turbodiesel for the first time after changing the oil, it is necessary to ensure that the engine first runs at idle until the oil pressure warning lamp goes out. Only after reaching the required oil pressure can the gas be increased. If gas is given when the control lamp is on, the turbocharger may be damaged due to insufficient oil.
Oil filling is carried out through a special filler neck in the cylinder head cover equipped with a cap (see Section Checking fluid levels, leak control).
When changing the oil, use new oil of the same type and, if possible, the same brand. Use a funnel to minimize splashing. At each oil change, attach a plate to the engine indicating the brand and viscosity of the oil filled.
Attention! It is recommended to first add 0.5 l less oil. Warm up the engine and after a few minutes, using the pointer, check the oil level, top up if necessary. Remove excess oil, otherwise engine seals and catalytic converter may be damaged.
Add oil up to the MAX mark on the dipstick blade (see Section Checking fluid levels, leak control). If the oil level is higher, the excess oil must be pumped out.
After a test drive, check the tightness of the drain plug and oil filter, if necessary, carefully add oil.
3 minutes after stopping the engine, check the oil level again, add or remove oil if necessary.
