- connection or disconnection of wires of injection systems or glow plugs should be carried out only when the engine is not running;
- to turn the crankshaft of the engine (e.g. to check compression), without starting the engine, it is necessary to disconnect the plug connector of the fuel valve;
- the terminal from the battery should be removed only when the engine is not running, so as not to damage the electronic system (on 2.9 l engine). When disconnecting the battery, be aware that the radio may have a security code set.
Observe the following precautions when working on the injection system:
- All work on the injection system must be carried out in a clean room. Outdoor repairs should be carried out in calm weather to avoid dusting of parts;
- wipe all connections thoroughly before unscrewing;
- all removed parts should be laid out on a clean surface and covered with paper or a plastic cover. Do not use fluffy cloth for this;
- all open or partially dismantled parts of the injection system should be adequately covered or placed in a closed container if repairs are delayed;
- before installation, carefully check the cleanliness of all parts - they must be spotlessly clean;
- if the parts of the system are open, do not use compressed air for work in the engine compartment;
- if possible, do not move the car when the injection system is disassembled;
- ensure that fuel does not get on the hoses of the cooling system. In case of contact, wipe immediately with a cloth. Damaged hoses must be replaced. Repair of the pump is possible only in a special workshop. A special tool is required to remove and install the pump. The injection timing is set only on specialized service station equipment.
Note. All work described below applies only to the engine mod. 601 (2.3 l). All work on the electronic control system on the 2.9 liter engine is carried out at the service station. In the further description, these cases will be indicated additionally.
