Fuel — specifications and description (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

0
The Mercedes diesel engine requires diesel fuel with a cetane number of 45. The cetane number (CZ) is a characteristic of the flammability of the fuel.

Diesel fuel contains a number of additives.

Ignition accelerator together with the cetane number it increases flammability.

Oxidation inhibitor improves fuel stability during storage.

Antifoam prevents foam formation when filling with fuel.

Antismoke. Due to the catalytic effect, complete combustion of carbon particles occurs.

Surfactants reduces deposits in the injection system.

Conductivity improving additive, prevents the formation of electrostatic charges.

Metal deactivators are needed to deactivate copper ions, which act as oxidation catalysts.

Anti-thickener improves cold flow (filterability, wax-releasing ability).

Fragrances should neutralize the characteristic odor.

Anti-carbon reduces the temperature at which soot and carbon deposits form in exhaust particle filters.

Biosides prevent the growth of bacteria.

Additives to protect against wear, improve lubrication of the fuel pump.

Winter diesel fuel

The fuel supply system is equipped with preheating.

In winter, the following additives can be added to diesel fuel:

1. Autol Desolite D/DW, LM Fliessfit, Valvoline Winterfit or Veedol Diesel Aktiv.

Attention! For fuels freezing at -22°C, additional quantities of anti-thickening agent only provide a positive effect in exceptional cases.

2. Addition of unleaded gasoline. But this worsens flammability. If summer (from 0 to -15°C) and regular winter (from -15 to -25°C) fuel are used, it is recommended to add no more than 30% of regular gasoline. In terms of a full fuel tank (65 l), this will amount to a maximum of 19 l of gasoline. If the temperature does not reach the specified negative values, then it is necessary to add correspondingly less gasoline. Of course, the engine will not operate economically on such a mixture, it will be harder to start. In addition, the engine will run more harshly. Accordingly, the loads on the engine parts will increase somewhat. Therefore, as soon as the temperature allows, fill up with diesel fuel again.

How to save fuel

Accelerate smoothly, but shift into the next gear as soon as possible. Once you reach the desired speed, shift into the highest gear and do not press the accelerator pedal. The engine should only run at high speeds when overtaking or moving in traffic.
