Approximate headlight adjustment (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

0
A special measuring device is required for precise adjustment of headlights, so this work should be entrusted to a service station. Some petrol stations also offer such a service. Check and adjust the headlights yourself.

Preparing the vehicle for rough headlight adjustment

1. The fuel tank must be full. Otherwise, put ballast in the trunk (with a half-full tank - about 30 kg).

2. There must be an assistant behind the wheel (otherwise use 75 kg ballast).

3. Tire pressure must be correct.

4. Place the car opposite the wall. The distance from the wall to the car should be exactly 5 m (Fig. 9.22).

5. Press firmly on the front of the vehicle to return the front suspension to its original position.

Sequence of works

1. Measure the distance from the floor to the center point of both headlights. Put the value on the wall and draw line S1.

2. Draw a parallel line on the wall five centimeters below it E. This is the deviation of the low beam at a distance of 5 m.

3. Looking forward through the rear window, ask an assistant to draw a vertical line exactly in the center of the car M.

4. Measure (left and right) the distance between the center of the car and the center point of the headlights. Put these values on the auxiliary line S1 (to the left and right of the intersection point of the lines M and S1) and mark with a reference cross S2.

5. The break points of the low beam on the adjustment line should be exactly 5 cm under these crosses during adjustment E.

6. If the car is equipped with fog lights, to adjust them, you should draw an auxiliary line with installation crosses using the same principle (central point of fog lights).
