For the first time among the world's automakers, Mercedes-Benz has developed an electronically controlled system to reduce the braking distance in emergency cases. It is called Brake-Assist, since 1997 the system has been installed as standard (pic. 8.4).
Brake-Assist recognizes emergency braking situations by the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed. From that moment on, the electronics take over control to ensure the most efficient braking until the driver begins to control the force on the brake pedal.
Within fractions of a second, the braking force is increased due to the fact that in a modern braking system with the Brake-Assist system, the master cylinder and amplifier are also equipped with electronic elements and are included in the electronic control circuit of the system, and the braking distance of the car at a speed of 100 km / h is reduced by 45 %.
