The ASR traction control system additionally provides torque reduction. For this, the engine management system is additionally equipped with electronic throttle control (E-Gas). Thanks to this, the electronic control unit regulates the position of the throttle valve electromechanically.
When the rear wheel is slipping and the rear wheel is automatically braked and the other wheel is also approaching the slip limit, the electronic control system determines that the torque is exceeded for these conditions. Within fractions of a second, the electronic device changes the throttle position in the direction of reducing the fuel supply, even in cases where the driver in an emergency gives a full throttle «gas». By reducing the fuel supply, the engine torque is reduced and the traction of the drive wheels is increased. On a cold engine, the ignition timing is additionally rearranged. A pointer in the instrument cluster informs about the operation of the ASR system and gives the driver a signal at the moment when the wheel starts to spin.
