Due to the controlled braking of the wheels, skid resistance is created and the controllability of the car is increased.
If necessary, the anti-skid system can be forcibly disabled using the appropriate console switch (see Section Controls and interior equipment). When the ESP system is disabled, the warning indicator lamp built into the speedometer assembly is activated (see Section Instrument cluster, meters and control lamps and indicator lights). The ASR is reactivated using the same switch.
Note. In the event of a failure of the anti-lock brake system (ABS) the anti-skid system is also disabled.
