Fig. 10.29. On the T-model (station wagon), the rear seat cushion must be removed from the hinges (arrows)
If the front seat belt tensioners have been triggered in an accident, they need to be replaced. To check, remove the B-pillar trim and check if the color markings on the cable are visible. If the tensioner mechanism has been triggered, the pistons have moved upward as a result of the reaction and the length of the cable has changed. This can also be checked at a service station using computer diagnostics. To remove the front belts, remove the B-pillar trim (fig. 10.29); to remove the rear seat belts, remove the cushion and back of the rear seat, as well as the upholstery of the rear pillars.

Checking seat belts
If the seat belt is faulty, it is usually not necessary to replace the entire assembly. The roller mechanism and the lock are replaced separately. To ensure that the belts are in good condition when needed, they must be replaced in the following cases:
- when the belt has wavy folds;
- or if the belt edges are worn out;
- abrasions were found on the fabric;
- there are seam breaks.
Dirty belts can only be cleaned with a mild soap solution. Gasoline and chemical cleaning agents destroy the structure of the fabric.
