Caution! When installing the timing chain cover, it is necessary to use sealant, a new sealing gasket and a new O-ring for the coolant pipe. It is also advisable to replace the front camshaft O-ring.
Removal
Unscrew the central bolt (1) to remove the distributor rotor drive (2)

1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Press the retaining clips and remove the distributor housing. Remove the central high-voltage wire from the distributor cap, unscrew the three screws, remove the distributor cap and move it to the side without disconnecting the remaining high-voltage wires from it.
3. Partially drain the coolant from the cooling system.
4. Disconnect the coolant supply hose to the heater from the front of the cylinder head.
5. Remove the bolts and coolant supply pipe from the water pump.
6. Unscrew the three screws and remove the distributor rotor.
7. Unscrew the central bolt and remove the distributor rotor drive (see fig. Unscrewing the central bolt to remove the distributor rotor drive). Remove the plastic cover from the front and top of the drive chain cover.
8. Unscrew the bolts securing the upper drive chain cover and remove the cover. The upper drive chain cover is installed with sealant on the guide pins.
9. Remove the seal from the groove at the top of the lower timing chain cover.
Installation
Places to apply sealant (arrows) before installing a new gasket (1) on the lower drive chain cover

1. Clean the mating surfaces of the timing chain cover and cylinder head from any remaining sealant.
2. Replace the camshaft seal ring in the upper timing chain cover.
3. Using a screwdriver blade, remove the old O-ring from the upper timing chain cover.
4. Clean the O-ring mounting slot. Install the new O-ring in the socket so that the end face of the O-ring is flush with the surface of the drive chain cover.
5. To protect the working edges of the new sealing ring from damage during its installation, wrap the end of the camshaft with adhesive tape.
6. Apply a layer of sealant to the joint where the top of the lower timing chain cover meets the cylinder head (see Fig. Places to apply sealant before installing a new gasket on the lower drive chain cover). Install a new gasket into the groove at the top of the lower timing chain cover.
7. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and upper timing chain cover.
8. Lubricate the camshaft sealing ring lips with clean engine oil and install the upper timing chain cover. Secure the cover with bolts, tightening them to the specified torque.
9. Remove the adhesive tape from the end of the camshaft.
10. If present, install the front and upper covers onto the timing chain cover. Install the distributor rotor drive. The protrusion on the camshaft should fit into the groove in the drive bushing. Screw in the central distributor rotor drive mounting bolt and tighten it to the specified torque.
11. Install the distributor rotor and secure it with screws.
12. Install a new O-ring onto the coolant supply pipe, install the pipe onto the water pump and secure with bolts.
13. Place the coolant hose on the pipe.
14. Install the distributor cap and connect the central high-voltage wire to it.
15. Install the cylinder head cover.
16. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
