Attention! Due to the fact that the gearbox is a very complex unit, it is therefore difficult to diagnose and repair a malfunction in the gearbox. Do not remove the transmission from the vehicle for repair before the problem has been professionally identified as most testing requires the transmission to be in the vehicle.
Fluid leaks
- The transmission fluid used is usually dark in color, so be careful not to confuse engine oil leaks, which may drip onto the transmission with the transmission fluid.
- To determine the source of a transmission fluid leak, clean the transmission case of contamination using a special tool or steam. Make a test drive for a short distance at low speed so that if there are leaks from the transmission, the air flow does not blow the transmission fluid away from the leak. Raise the vehicle or place it above the inspection hole and determine the location of the leak. The most likely locations for fluid leaks are:
- a - oil collector;
- b - pipe for dipstick for measuring the level of transmission fluid;
- c - places for connecting pipes from the heat exchanger.
If the transmission fluid is brown or smells of burning
- Transmission operation with transmission fluid level. In this case, it is necessary to replace the transmission fluid.
Fuzzy gear selection
- Usually, incorrect gear selection is due to improper adjustment of the gear selector cable. Also, fuzzy gear selection can be associated with other problems:
- a - the engine is started not in the PARK or NEUTRAL position of the gear selector lever,
- b - the set gear is incorrectly displayed on the indicator panel;
- c - the vehicle can move in the PARK or NEUTRAL position of the gear selector;
- d - unsystematic gear shifting.
Automatic transmission does not downshift when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed (KICK DOWN)
- The transmission fluid level in the gearbox is below normal.
- Shift cable incorrectly adjusted.
The engine does not start when the gear selector is in any position or starts in other positions than PARK or NEUTRAL
- The position of the starter interlock switch is incorrectly adjusted.
- Shift cable incorrectly adjusted.
