1. Install the camshaft adjuster. To do this, screw on the flange shaft (16) with new bolts (spanner size T40). Tighten the bolts as follows: first with a torque wrench to 20 Nm, then with an open-end wrench tighten another 90° (1/4 turn).
2. Turning to the left, fit the intake camshaft gear (13) with the adjusting piston (14) and spherical spring (14a), and it will engage with the flange shaft. The position of the flange shaft should be set in advance. The paint marks should match.
3. Place the timing chain on the intake camshaft gear. The markings on the timing chain and sprocket applied during dismantling must match.
4. Tighten the nut (6) to a torque of 65 Nm, with the locking slot facing outwards.
5. Insert the anchor (2), making sure that the clamping sleeve on the anchor is located above the blunt end of the control piston (18).
6. Tighten the flange bolt (1) as follows: using a torque wrench to 5 Nm, then turn it further in the same direction by 90° (1/4 turn). In this case, hold the anchor (2) by the flats with an open-end wrench SW24.
7. Screw on the exhaust camshaft gear, and for the 1.8/2.0 L engine, additionally the intake camshaft gear with the attached timing chain using new bolts (key size T40). The markings on the chain wheel and chain must match. Tighten the bolts as follows: with a torque wrench to 20 Nm, then tighten in the same direction with an open-end wrench by 90° (1/4 turn).
8. Install the chain tensioner.
Caution: Remove the locking pins from the camshafts.
9. Connect the exhaust pipe.
10. Place the coolant hose on the rear of the cylinder head and secure with hose clamps.
11. Screw the engine and automatic transmission oil level gauge guide tubes to the cylinder head.

12. Coat the sealing surfaces of the front cover (23) of the cylinder head side with sealant 002 989 0020 10 or other sealant.
13. Install the relief bushings for the two bolts (1) (thread diameter 8 mm) behind the cover. 56. Install a new coolant O-ring and insert the cover.
14. Tighten the bolts (1) on both sides with a torque of 20 Nm, and the bolts (2) (thread diameter 6 mm) with a torque of 10 Nm.
15. Install the lambda probe wire.
16. Place the air bleed hoses onto the cylinder head.
17. Screw the crankshaft position sensor holder to the rear of the cylinder head.
18. Bolt the intake manifold to the cylinder head.
19. Install a new sealing gasket, tighten the bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern to 20 Nm.
20. Install the coolant regulator (thermostat).
21. Fill with coolant.
22. Install the cylinder head cover.
23. Connect the battery ground wire.
24. Set the time on the clock.
25. Enter the radio anti-theft code.
26. Warm up the engine to operating temperature and check for leaks.
Attention! If oil leaks due to a leaky cylinder head gasket, it is recommended to replace the oil.
