Steering shaft (Mercedes-Benz Vito W638)

Removal



1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Set the steering wheel to the center position and lock the steering shaft in this position.

3. Unscrew bolt 1 securing hinge 2 (see figure 8.3).

4. Remove the steering wheel.

5. Remove the fuse box.

6. Disconnect the A12.2 wiring connector from the fuse box. On vehicles with 601 engine: Disconnect the vacuum line.

7. Disconnect the vacuum tube from the ignition switch.

8. Unscrew nut 4 and bolts 3 securing the steering shaft. Replace nut 4 and bolts 3.

9. Remove the steering shaft and disconnect the steering shaft lock.

Installation



10. Install the steering shaft lock. On vehicles with 601 engine: Connect the vacuum line.

11. Lock the steering shaft lock in the required position.

12. Install the steering shaft.

13. Screw the steering shaft to the frame.

14. Install the ignition switch and fuse box.

15. Attach steering shaft joint 2 to steering gear shaft 1.

16. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
