The alternator brushes come into contact with smooth slip rings and are therefore designed for a long service life. To check the brushes, the generator must be removed.
Next, carry out the following work:
Pic. 308. Replacing the voltage regulator: 1 — bolts of fastening of a cover; 2 - cover; 3 - guide; 4 - output «masses»; 5 - alternator; 6 - voltage regulator; 7 — a bolt of fastening of a regulator
- unscrew three bolts 1 (pic. 308) and remove cover 2;
- unscrew the brush holder in the block with the voltage regulator 6 from the generator and remove. To do this, tilt the regulator slightly so as not to damage the brushes;
Pic. 309. Measuring the length of brushes (a - not less than 5.0 mm)
- measure the length of the brushes a, as shown in fig. 309. If it is less than 5 mm, unsolder the wires going to the brushes;
- solder new brushes and install parts in reverse order. Make sure that the brushes are located above the slip rings. When installing a voltage regulator, it must come into contact with pin 4 «masses».
