The voltage regulator is built into the carbon brush holder. Carbon brushes can be replaced individually, although this requires some skill; on average, they wear out after the car has traveled approximately 120,000 km. We recommend replacing carbon brushes a little earlier.
Removal

1. Remove the generator.
2. Unscrew the bolts (1), disconnect the spring clamps and remove the protective cover (2). Unscrew the bolts (4) and pull the regulator (5) to the side.
3. Replace the carbon brushes by unsoldering the multi-core flexible connecting wire.
4. Check the wear of the contact rings, grind them clean and polish them if necessary.
Installation
1. Insert new carbon brushes (A) and springs (B) into the carbon brush holder (C) and solder the connections.
2. To prevent the tin solder from rising high in the flex wire when soldering new brushes, support the multi-strand brush connecting flex wire with pliers.
Warning! Highly raised tin solder will cause the multi-core connecting flexible wires to become stiff and the carbon brushes to become inoperative.
3. Install the voltage regulator and screw it tightly. When installing, make sure that the protrusion for connecting to the car body is adjacent to the regulator.
4. After installing new carbon brushes, check them for ease of movement in their holders.
5. Place the protective cover on the generator and screw it in place.
6. Install the generator.
