Removal

1. Disconnect the (–) wire from the battery terminal that connects its pole to the vehicle body.

Caution! Disconnect this wire from the battery only with the ignition off, otherwise the fuel injection system control unit may be damaged. Before disconnecting the wires from the battery terminals, you should also read the recommendations in the relevant section.

2. Raise the front of the vehicle. If equipped, remove the lower engine compartment cover.

3. Disconnect the wire from terminal 30 (1) and terminal 50 (2) on the traction relay.

4. Remove the clamps 4 to 7 for securing the wires. Vehicles with a diesel engine do not have a clamp (5) for securing the wires.

5. 6-cylinder engine with automatic transmission: Unscrew the rear engine shaft bearing on the frame.

6. Unscrew the bolts (3) on the starter flange.

7. Pull the starter down. For a 6-cylinder engine, first turn the steering wheel slightly to the left.

1. Install the starter and tighten the bolts securely to 40 N·m. For a 6-cylinder engine, reset the steering to straight ahead.

2. Screw the wire to terminal 30 with a torque of 15 Nm, to terminal 50 with a torque of 5 Nm.

3. Install staples 4 to 7 to secure the wires.

4. Install the lower engine compartment cover.

5. Connect the ground (–) cable to the battery terminal. Set the clock time and enter the anti-theft code for the radio.
