Check in installed state
1. Disengage the transmission and set the gear shift lever to neutral.
2. Briefly shunt terminal 30 on the starter with an auxiliary wire (thick positive wire) and terminal 50 (thin wire running to the ignition and instrument switch), the starter drive pinion should move forward quickly and activate the starter. If this does not happen, unscrew the starter and replace the relay.
Removal
1. Remove the starter and retest it in the removed position using the battery. The starter auxiliary power supply wire is suitable as a feeder line to terminal 50 of the starter (outside the car) battery. If the pinion moves forward quickly without engaging the starter, have the starter repaired at a garage.
